Note, the law usually specifies defense of the innocent.
Even minor charges against the person you’re defending could complicate your legal case.
Thats what the jury is for
Juries that are notoriously well known for trusting cops and police testimony.
Maybe a little less soon....
But if they're not available for testimony...
You think every member of the Union won’t be up there on the stand to cry about how great a guy he was?
It'd be complicated, sure, but that's a drop in the much larger bucket of a case. What does a reasonable person know or believe at the moment of the perceived danger though? Won't rule it out but can't see a courtroom conclusion stating that I should have hopped on my computer to do a background check first. I do have evidence of a murderous gang of terrorists targeting people (citizen or otherwise) on American soil, however, and they like to dress up in an imitation of police gear.
Don’t get me wrong, morally you’re almost certainly justified.
It’s just that historically self defense or defense of others claims on killing a law enforcement officer are a huge uphill battle in the courts.
It’s extremely rare for a court to find killing an officer justified.
