A growing number of Republicans are questioning or criticizing the Trump administration's response to the killing of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse who was fatally shot by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis on Saturday.

The criticism has extended beyond the handful of Republicans who are known for periodically differing from Trump.

Some Trump allies are also among those questioning immigration agents' tactics or the Department of Homeland Security's handling of the shooting. At minimum, they are calling for an investigation into Pretti's shooting.

Clearly they all see how bad their polling is and want to pretend they "resisted" Trump to hang onto their seats.

It’s their heads they need to hang onto.

Yep, they're starting to make their bail out plans. This was nothing less than a MAGA Death Squad acting as a firing squad against an innocent American citizen on a public street. Certain people are never going to walk away from this. Those who murdered him, and those who gave the orders, will be going to prison, and EVERY other MAGA knows it, and they don't want to go down with this ship.

So they're all going to be throwing whatever scapegoats will stick. Bovino is already gone, and Homan is on his way, so Noem is going to concentrate on destroying FEMA, and Lewandowski will be out.

The big question is Stephen "PeeWee Himmler" Miller, whose name is finally coming up in the conversations about firing. He tries to keep a low profile, but he's front and center on this one. This morning, I heard Eric Smallwell get asked what it would take for him to vote to fund DHS, and he said "Noem fired, Bovino fired, Miller fired." For the first time, he has become a lightning rod, and he's in a very bad storm.
