Heavily subsidised by selling oil to less oil-rich countries. At least some money goes to people rather than a local monarch. Good for Norway, who also lucked on hydro power, but if they really cared about the environment they’d actually stop drilling.
If we really cared we'd also importantly be buying fewer new cars every year. Over-consumption is running wild.
That is true, But automobile sharing is where that is heading to.
Imo, I'd rather see norway continue drilling but improve the controls over the oil fund and allocate more of it towards investing in building clean energy infrastructure in oil consuming countries. The oil fund has the potential to be a driver for combating climate change disproportionate to the negative impacts of drilling at norwegian scale.
Producing the currently needed fossil fuels from the cheapest sources is harm reduction.
Less accessible Ressource deposit require more effort, hence emissions.
