if only we had a better word for when something was on fire
It's iffy grammar, but perfectly workable communication.
policing grammar like that is annoying. especially given that not everyone here is a native English speaker.

I was thinking "burning"
"An on fire ship" feels distinctly like a child saying "timesing the numbers" instead of "multiplying the numbers"
that makes sense, they should have said "ship that is burning"

For many people in the world (and Lemmy), English is their third, or even fifth, language. An on fire ship makes as much sense as an airship, motorcycle, or sidecar.
