I understand people don’t like ai, and you certainly won’t see me in the ranks of AI advocates, but please don’t belittle their emotional states- remember that humans can get incredibly attached to even rocks, let alone something that speaks back to you.
AFAIK, there's no current fleshed out concept therapy that really addresses this specific fuckedheadedness.
They could start by turning off the computer
Is that really how it works?
In the same way that the best solution to a drug addiction is to stop using that drug, yes that is how it works. It may not be easy but it is simple.
So in your outdated book, addiction is purely a substance thing.

Yeah these people are literally victims of an intentional system to make people pay for more openai subs. I have no idea if they knew exactly what would happen but they had to know how addictive 4o was and that addiction would translate to whales paying for max tier subs to the detriment of everything else in their lives.

I don't know who is belittling them. The same way I feel bad for a person screaming on the street, this post is a fucking bummer.
The person screaming on the street is crazy. These people are just selfish. The AI tells them everything they want to hear and makes them feel good, unlike humans who will sometimes criticize them and make them feel bad. So, they've opted to spend their time with the AI instead.
