In under a year Trump caused the U.S. reputation to drop from mid-pack, 30th out of 60, to near the bottom, 48th out of 60.

Canada went up to #2 BEFORE Carney's speech? For what? What did we do?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Carney's been reaching out to all Canada's allies and any potential trade partners since taking office last year. He is apparently very well liked, and is considered a stable alternative to Trump's chaos.

His speech at Davis was more of a conclusion to all those negotiations, as opposed to an opening statement.

Yes, I suppose I assumed that wouldn't trickle down to public perception until the speech. But that makes sense. I also didn't read the article and don't actually know how the data was collected.

Sympathy for being the target of Trump's attacks. I think even when Justin Trudeau was PM people felt sympathy for Canada as Trump was calling Trudeau Canada's "governor", etc.

Denmark will probably go up next year just because they were targeted in the whole "Greenland" affair, and Norway will go up because Trump attacked their government for not giving him the Nobel Prize, even though the government has nothing to do with that.

Yeah, good point.

The election results perhaps? Conservatives got a surprise defeat, even in the face of pressure and threats from trump. I think that showed your principles and courage.

Read the article

"Meanwhile, Canada climbed two spots from 2024 to claim second place, reinforcing its long-standing reputation for inclusivity and diplomacy."

Helped inspire a heated rivalry?
