You know, I really, really wish I could understand what motivates some trump voters. My dad, whose grandchildren are all Hispanic, voted for trump. I wish that I could actually talk to him about this and figure out what he thought he would get from trump, what he thinks he is getting from trump, and how he feels about the slow then sudden erosion of multiple parts of the bill of rights. Does he not care or is he so deeply ashamed that he’s pretending not to? Would he vote for him again today? Unfortunately, we’re unable to have this conversation in a way that leaves either of us better informed, more thoughtful, or calm.
I recognize that I should not be looking to a TV show for this, but I can’t be the only one. It might make for bad TV, but I would love to see a very thorough conversation with a trump supporter wherein nobody talks over each other or misrepresents what other people are saying.
Like this- I’m way more interested in what he’s actually saying than what she interpreted from it. He’s not saying the murders were a successful operation, he’s saying the federal government has successfully shown that they will ignore sanctuary city status and prosecute immigration violations regardless. But that’s just a long way to say that states no longer have the right to self determination of immigration laws. Is that what he wants to say? Would he be consistent about it if pressed?
