There aren't many games like them around tbh.

i'd say numenera is the closest, as in, a walky talky kind of game

Its biggest problem is that it's just kinda mid kitty-cri-screm

that it is, pillars is probably closer writing-wise, i guess, but it's also a full ass rpg where the stats and equipment matter, and that feels like it's against the spirit of the games

edit: and yeah you can turn the difficulty down to it not matterting, but like, the game wasn't made for that; it was made so that combat is a big part of the content, at that point you might as well be reading a visual novel (which i highly encourage)

screm-cool Hell yeah skeleton-motorcycle

That's also why in my self deep-nesting I suggested stuff like Citizen Sleeper. RPG adjacent game with lightweight rules. Dustpunk was another one with a steampunk communist revolution bent.

Dustpunk

The dev is a comrade, right?

I think so. They were on here a little while ago, but I'm struggling to find the post.

I liked the game, but the mechanics didn't have the same level of ludo-narritive synergy to me that the Citizen Sleeper games did. Granted, Dust Punk has a big part involving organizing a revolutionary movement and I'm a bad leftist IRL lol - the struggling to get by in Citizen Sleeper just felt more relatable to me.
