I completely agree. But I still think as a slogan/name of a movement BLM is still a bad choice. Exactly because of these discussions. Something like "Stop killing black people" would have been better. That's something you can hardly misconstrue.

Bad actors could do the same and trot out "stop killing white people"

They're not arguing in good faith. They'll say anything if it advances their goals, without concern for consistency

Sure they could, but there is no epidemic of white people being killed and it'd sound ridiculous. While "all lives matter" is obviously true.

but there is no epidemic of white people being killed

Eh...

Sure, not white people in particular. But the cops do kill an awful lot of people. And plenty of those people are white. POC have a worse 'epidemic', to be sure, but that doesn't mean 'there is no epidemic of white people being killed'.

Then you need a movement like "Cops need to stop murdering people".

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

We've already got that. It's called ACAB.

[–] state_electrician@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I feel that's more a general character statement, and not an indictment of specific crimes.

Well, if we've got to come up with a movement for each and every of the cops' crimes, we're going to be here all day, just making names for new movements.
