Most of the people supporting anti immigration politicians are ignorant of the causes of their grief and only know the system isn't working so a solution that breaks the system looks like a fix. If that means other are rendered as powerless as they are then so be it. That's equality.
The other half is that they only get their information about the world from right wing sources intent on lying to their audience for gentle conformity. They simply don't know better. Breaking down their information bubble will solve a lot.
