What's the drama about Upscrolled social platform? (piefed.social)

I first heard of it during US part of TikTok being sold off. The mass migration started only month ago and I am already reading about its questionable ethics. This is pretty fast.

I have two phones — an iPhone, daily driver, and an old Android phone because Android is cool and stuff. I had TikTok on my Android phone (still do, I think). I put Upscrolled on it to try it out. In both cases, I used the Hide My Email feature on my iPhone to use an email I can wipe at any time.

So, Upscrolled... by default, the timeline is 99% Palestinian stuff. That's fine, it's a hot issue right now and all that. But I go into the Film category... 99% Palestine. Music? 99% Palestine. If there was a category called "No Palestinian stuff allowed," I bet it would also be 99% Palestine.

Again, I don't hate on Palestine and I'm on their side, not Israel's, but the Upscrolled app is just hyper focused on Palestine. So if you aren't interested in Palestine... maybe stay off Upscrolled?

Also, I heard Google kicked the app out of Google Play. Makes sense, Google (and Apple) are kinda beholden to US politics right now. I've never tried installing the app on my iPhone. So it's just being "tested" right now on the Android.

As much as I don't like TikTok, at least there is content on it. I can search for games I like and find some dumb 5-10 second videos (or whatever the limit is) on it, people reacting, memes, cooking stuff, apparently BookTok is a thing... I never really got short-form video. Doesn't really appeal to my generation (1970s).
