A workshop for the memes of production.

Submit new emoji here.

A good submission is:

  1. Visually clear at a small size (120 pixel width) [This does not mean upload the small image, this means upload the source image or full size cutout but test prior.]
  2. Have a transparent background to the greatest degree possible. This online tool can remove many backgrounds.
  3. Display a clear emotion or purpose
  4. If including text, should be properly sized to be readable
  5. "Evergreen" and not something that will be irrelevant after the next news cycle
  6. Formatted in PNG, GIF, or SVG to make our file optimization cycles easier. If svg initially, send svg in a seperately hosted link to WhyEssEff. Same with gif, as we render them as mp4 IIRC.
  7. Have proposed title as the title of the post, nothing more, nothing less.
  8. Post body should include a suggested category and keywords.
  9. Max height of 3 times the width.

Rules:

  1. No reactionary or reactionary-adjacent expressions. The purpose of an image is what it expresses. Some clear examples for this rule:
    • Allowed: Broken fasces, burning stars-and-bars, rotated Mussolini
    • Disallowed: Body-shaming, Pepes, gay-shaming the enemy (e.g. those pictures of Putin and Trump that libs love to post), certain hateful wojaks (even if recontextualized)
    • If you think you have touched on a grey area, see rule 7 for how to litigate this.
  2. ~~Nothing Vaush-related is allowed~~
    • To be honest, I broke this rule, so it's pretty much moot. Just run it by me first in DMs or matrix. Vaush is a bit of a dead horse, so to speak, so they're still generally discouraged. The qualification for a viable emote referencing his existence is more a matter of execution -- @WhyEssEff
  3. No desecration of religious imagery.
    • This rule does not extend to the subordinate representations of religious symbolism present within the flags and/or iconography of nations, political parties, or militant groups.
  4. Nothing sexually explicit or overtly horny is allowed
    • :hentai-free:
  5. No sectarianism in submissions. Pro-tendency content is fine, but we will not accept content degrading specific tendencies.
  6. No gore, no SA, no sui-bait. Nothing that could reasonably trigger a comrade.
  7. If you think you're touching on a grey area with a submission, message @whyesseff:matrix.org to clear it before you post.
    • DISCLAIMER: Clearing does not necessarily mean that I'll add it, just that it's alright to submit and the rules will not be the barrier to its addition -- @WhyEssEff
  8. No content that breaks the Hexbear Code Of Conduct.

Emoji are added to the codebase periodically. Emoji may or may not be accepted and the dev team has final decision.

All images submitted must be ones you have the right to share with the project. By posting images in this comm, you are agreeing that you have permission to share this image with the project.

For those of us who are not context pilled, why is this called :whitey-cool:?

Also I think it would be easier to read if the bars on the right were a bit shorter, with the fire closer to the colors on the left side.

It's an empty tier list, and they are kinda video essays but in image format, as in white people love making them for some reason.

Tbh it doesn't matter much if it gets added I was just venting, lemme fix it though.

I was also wondering how the tier list related to whiteness. The answer "white people love making tier lists for some reason" made me laugh, so thank you for that.

I disagree on two points, the first one is that if we are making a :whitey-cool: emoji, it should definitely be one of these two lmayo cracker with the flame on it.

Secondly, are tier lists really that white? I think that some of the (S/S+) ranking stuff started in Japan, especially with its history in gaming culture. Even now, IME, the people I see making versions of it are a pretty representative slice of the local Zoomer population, although it might be different where you live.

This is a fun emote though

Fair enough, I just wanted something flag like, as for the second point I usually see gamer stuff as white as it gets. since POCs are always pushed out of gamer spaces.

Maybe gamer-cool Tier list burning

That image is way better yeah, nice work. Personally, I agree with your gamer-cool, it fills a useful niche we don't have already, and there isn't an established Gamer^tm flag that would be a better fit.

The two Gamer communities I associate with tier lists are fighting games and MOBAs, both of which are less white (I'm pretty sure) than the average gaming community. I haven't really paid much attention to what the kids are doing with tier lists in the past few years, so I don't know if they have had some resurgence with white zoomers outside the gaming community while I've been gone.

I don't want to concern troll all over your post, but I think there are better/more specific cultural insults that would do a better job at insulting white people. Although, it is kinda esoteric in the same way as PPB, where the context isn't immediately obvious and it confuses the recipient.

yeah the american FGC is very black and queer relatively. one of the biggest personalities and best performers over the last decade is a furry nb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SonicFox

there's bigots around because we don't gatekeep enough, but most places they get smacked down pretty quick

[–] SnakeEyes@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

It's okay I don't see it as concern trolling, you've put way more thought into this than I ever did

Funnily enough I was thinking of MOBAs (DOTA and Smite) and fighting games (arena fighters) where you get slurred up or get sent friend requests to get slurred up lmao.

There's more than definitely a better insult to represent white people like NPR or threatening to move to another country or something like that

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

maybe it's just my circles but i've seen more black people make tier-lists and engage in tier-list discourse than white people
