I've also heard: "They need to be resilient because the world is such a harsh place!"
And who made it a harsh place? Who perpetuates the behavior patterns that shape the world we live in into a harsh place? Who decided the world should be harsh for everyone but them, even if it's possible to make it easy for everyone?
They don't have good answers to these questions.
