Just quit and you're back where you started.
It depends on the country and what’s in the contract. You could be very behind where you started in specific scenarios.

So a country where you have to provide written notice of quitting, with a notice period of potentially months?
Yeah, a lot of companies will let you quit sooner, could even be in that contract for all we know, but you’ve signed a legal document. It’s not as simple as “just quit”.
