We can assume that they were released, or he wouldn't be so excited about his success. If he was getting the orders, but they weren't letting them out anyway, he'd be writing a different kind of post.

Your assumption, that he's getting the order for release, then walking away celebrating, as his client continues to rot in prison, doesn't sound plausible.
