Couldn't be, a user friendly feature, in this economy?
Not really, it's a way to sell you 25 year old games for $50. They saw Nintendo's Virtual Console and wanted in on that same grift.
Or even better, rent them
I assume it's part of Microsoft's XBOX transition to just plain old PCs with Windows.
Microsoft is getting out of the console wars to consolidate around desktop (and couch) computing. They're never going to beat steam and they're never going to make a trillion dollars fighting Sony another generation
