because all I really want to know is whether, having subscribed and then unsubscribed from this comm via lemmy.ml it will continue to federate for some period of time, or whether having returned to 0 local subscribers means it won’t.

It was a 7 month ban, but it expired sometime late last year, so it's possible they are.
