Marx d 1883. JEV b 1953. Capitalism existed before JEV.

Conflating the ruling class with JEV is not smart.

Whatever his influence and connective powers and even direct power may have been.

Although in some situations it is rhetorically useful to remind people about the pedophilia, etc, and to draw those connections. But constantly doing it is lazy and with over use, will lose effect. Just as for the catholic church, or boy scouts. Sort of a joke.

We don't refer to "the Regan class" even though virtually every problem on planet earth has some roots in Ronald Regan Regime. Without Regan there is no Epstein.

A problem with leftists is vastly overestimating how smart the average person is. If there's people that will stop and think about class because they know epstein = child abuse and we can get epstein = capitalism = bad guys into burgerlanders' thick skulls that's a good thing.

I'd really, to the pit of my heart, argue against this. If anything, the opposite is true.

When people refuse to accept leftism, it's frequently justified as "They're just innately stupid" or "They're just innately evil". Exceptions to every rule etc. but seriously - fuck off with that. It's a sentiment bordering on eugenics.

We are not some big brained uberclass. We just heard and saw the right things to think this way and study more, as a leftist it's your duty to help others do the same. To claim otherwise is so completely antithetical to basic materialism.

Just seeing this sentiment upbeared really makes me lose faith.

Make ideas easy to understand. By all means seize on events and use them as concrete examples. But don't treat people like they're NPCs, you need these people to be your comrades in arms. Your equals. So act like it. Epstein being a concrete example of what the bourgeois class enables has absofuckinglutely nothing to do with peoples' intelligence.

I partially agree. We absolutely should be helping people understand the class system, understand materialism and how to apply that thinking to current events. We can never tire of educating others.

But I do honestly believe that as a "vanguard" which I assume the vast majority here subscribes to, we ARE smarter than the average person at least with politics. That's what I've learned from years of canvassing, thousands of door knocks, talking with the public and working with politicians on the Dem and independent sides... most people don't know jack! It's not entirely their thought. They are exposed to capitalist propaganda from birth, the entire culture reinforces this, the schools reinforce this, religion, etc.

So what makes us different? It might need to be a separate post, and before I say this know that I love this community and don't want it to change. However we have to be honest with ourselves if we wish to be successful: we're outcasts! So many of us are different kinds if queer, neurodiverse, and not just nerdy, but nerdy about very arcane and obscure things. I never heard of Victoria 3 and barely heard of Disco Elysium before seeing this site, some of ya'll are Marxist scholars and could run circles around professional historians on recent Chinese and Russian history.

So how do we get the "normies" to listen and, God forbid, actually change their behavior? Epstein is a rhetorical gift for us because it gives us the easiest "in" for the average person. Child molesting is the one thing you can get most Americans to agree is a bad thing, and it just so happens the same people who made gas expensive and keep us from getting Healthcare are the ones doing the deed?!? We would be fools to NOT capitalize on this!

"epstein = capitalism = bad guys" seems like a pretty good example of making an idea easier to understand for a deeply propagandized population

[–] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 9 hours ago

You can replace being not smart with being overly propagandized in their point and it still stands. Epstein class gets through.
