The joke is subversion of expectations

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

And a little bit the absurdity of abruptly seeing tools getting sloppy

Yep.

Nailed it.

Kissing, obviously

Is it tho? I get that the first panel can be read homophobic but the end subverts all gender norms. If anything, nail and screw are the same gender

That is the point. It is depicting two sets of heterosexual relationships that do not work out because the individuals are just not compatible. But instead of the individuals moving onto finding the right heterosexual partner for them, they get the bright idea to just resort to a homosexual relationship. The joke is just "gays are dumb".

What?

I see two tops and two bottoms.

Two doms and two subs.

Two bears and two twinks, two butch and two princesses.

You... can easily read this in a number of ways, that's arguably the strength of using such non human 'characters'.

Could be hetero, could be homo, could be ... ToolTime-sexual.

If anything, its an endorsement of just stepping outside your normal, traditional boundaries, and in some situations that seems to work out for everyone involved.

If still not sure if you're saying this is a homophobic joke or a joke about homophobia. If I understand you correctly, the joke is that the gays are so stupid, they didn't realize they want a same sex partner until the light ball told them?

Always has been.
