Even if you have clearance you should probably still double check. I wanna be clear and say I'm not blaming the driver, I'm just saying that you put a lot of trust into ATC but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have your own checks. I'm just saying this as advice to anyone that works a dangerous job.
When I took classes on OSHA and MSHA the teacher would always go through incident reports and fatalities whenever certain things come up. 8/10 times those involved in fatalities were those with years or even decades of experience. When you get too comfortable with your routine you get complacent. We all do it. Even when our job isn't high stress or dangerous. It's a good idea to remind yourself every now and again to pay attention and not get too comfortable.
You know I’d probably check left, right before crossing an intersection, but I’m not sure I’d check up.
~~The plane was reportedly doing about 40kph ~~; I think that would suggest to me that it was already on the ground when the truck started crossing. Perhaps that’s why the ATC forgot about it.
New reports say 100mph.
There's no way in hell the plane was doing 40kph. That looks closer to 100mph.
