It’s some old 9/11 BS.
FEMA responds any disaster, including one caused by terrorism. They got rolled into DHS so one chain of command could coordinate responses to terrorism.
Problem is, 99.9% of their day job responding to non-terrorism disasters.
It’s an org structure designed around an edge case, not the more common needs.
So, hair gel or something?
I have 12 teefpicks. Still not hot. Send help.
First, migrate the shit out of it that should’ve never been in it.
I don’t know why the department in change of natural disaster aid is in the same org as TSA and ICE. That’s so damn silly.
A big exception to the rule are the HomeKit secure video cameras that work in Apple’s ecosystem. If your HomeKit compatible camera is going straight into HKSV, and isn’t paired with manufacturer’s own cloud video service, then it’s all E2EE and it can’t be accessed by Apple, even with a warrant.
Problem is, camera offerings are limited, and scrolling clips in HomeKit is paaaainful. Also, if you’re not in Apple’s ecosystem, you can’t use it.
First, there’s the pull-forward effect. December 2025 was Tesla’s best-ever retail month in China at 93,843 units, as buyers rushed to purchase before the reinstatement of a 5% purchase tax on NEVs starting January 1, 2026. That tax had been fully exempted for over a decade. Some of January’s weakness is borrowed December strength.
Second, China’s vehicle trade-in subsidies expired in most cities in mid-November and remain in a transitional phase, dampening demand broadly.
Third, the broader NEV market was weak. China’s total passenger NEV retail sales fell 20% year-over-year in January to 596,000 units, according to CPCA estimates. Even BYD saw its NEV sales drop 30% year-over-year and 50% month-over-month.
But here’s the thing: even BYD’s weak month produced 210,051 units. Tesla’s 18,485 is a different universe.
MAGA ain’t going to be able to intimidate a woman that skates at the uptown Oakland rink. She’s seen harder shit they they’ll ever see.
Honestly I’m on the fence about yanking the DHS funding. Trump is just going to fund ICE through other piles of money that he got in the BBB and that he’ll just start cutting other more critical services. Like FEMA, which is under the DHS.
If the Dems can effectively communicate that Trump is using FEMA, TSA, and coastguard money for ICE, then they should cut funding. But I’m not particularly confident about the Dems ability to communicate this. Hell, a lot of people don’t even realize that Trump can still fund ICE if Dems holdback DHS funding. They have not effectively communicated this.
It’s from HBO’s Silicon Valley … but also, it’s pretty damn similar.
That’s what they’re going to do.

The main issue is that these items have a much bigger list of requirements and stakeholders than the items designed in the past. They’re trying to be everything for everyone.
Something like a simple park bench needs meet requirements for accessibility, weather resistance, vandalism, cleaning, vagrancy - plus all of the opinions of city council and people that show up to nag city council.
