For those interested in the Vision Pro, let me know what questions you have about the device. I’ll be getting mine this afternoon and will be trying out all the features.

How to set up a new Mac mini with Tahoe 26.1 for the best possible privacy.

What settings should I turn off, what do you recommend for the vest privacy on a mac M4 ?

Currently using Linux, just need a dedicated editing and music making machine.

Saw this in Sequoia, and it looks like my fix was removed when upgrading to Tahoe.

Was seeing a strange issue w/ macOS mail. Didn't see it in iOS or iPadOS, just on the desktop client. I receive hotel receipts from travel to, e.g., a Hotmail address, and mobile phone receipts to a Gmail address. They both need to be forwarded to a work address. If I forward on from the Hotmail address, when I later try to forward my mobile receipt, after entering the work email address in the "To" line, the "From" lline will automatically change to my Hotmail address. When the forward window initially comes up, it shows my Gmail address, because that's the account that received the original email, but once I plugged in the "To" address, it changes the "From" address to the last email account that sent a message to that "To" address.

Maybe I'm alone here, but I think this is bizarre behavior! To fix it, go to Settings (⌘-,) --> Composing. Under Addressing, change "Send new messages" from "Automatically Select Best Account" to a specific email address. This will make forwards behave as expected w/o changing the From address, but all new emails will default to being from your new default "From" address.

With Tim Cook’s persistent support of the Trump administration and mealy mouthed finger-wagging regarding ICE, consider joining me and others in voting against TIm’s position on Apple’s board of directors.

cross-posted from: https://piefed.social/c/linux/p/1705080/apparently-fedora-asahi-remix-is-now-working-on-apple-m3

For those who do not know, asahi project until now has only worked on m1 and m2 macbooks till now (newest ones are m5). While I do not remember the technical details as to why it has not worked on m3 yet, here are official pages for support - https://asahilinux.org/fedora/#device-support and more detailed https://asahilinux.org/docs/platform/feature-support/m3/ , but the other day in some thread someone mentioned that the way asahi folks got it working was to load some vms at very early stages of boot, and that way they got stuff working, which was changed (here is link to their comment, though it mentions only m4 being the hard one, so maybe this one is not the correct reason - https://piefed.social/post/1656479#comment_9667816), but more generally, it is because apple is a closed eco system, and thy absolutely do not publish support guides for their socs. So a big achievement.

I use Cmd-Shift all the time to highlight from cursor to beginning or end of a line. Also use Opt+Shift for word highlighting. Today I learned if you do Cmd+Shift+Delete, it will just remove from the cursor to the beginning of the line! Of course, I tested and Cmd+Opt+Del will delete the word to the left of the cursor.

Anyway, brain got a tiny bit bigger today.

@apple_enthusiast Do you have any idea how to reclaim all my system data in macOs? I've tried deleting caches, removing containers, everything! As soon as I clear more space it just eats it up again

I have been multiple home pods at work, and one at home and when playing music from my iPhone or iPad (both iOS 26.2) via tidal to the home pods the sound stops sometimes every other song. The music continues to play, and it I start the song over or skip it the audio comes back.

I also stream tidal from my iPhone to my truck through Bluetooth and it seems fine (I am not driving more than a song or three lately so I cannot say with 100% certainty that I does not happen in the truck).

Today I tried streaming using my old iPad with iOS 16.7 and so far so good.

I am guessing it is something between HomePods and iOS 26+, but tidal is my only music service currently so I cannot fully rule that out.

I have reinstalled tidal, restarted devices, and speakers.

I did a search for the problem and I cannot find anything regarding 26 and tidal specifically.

Anyone else have this issue and find a fix for it?
