When questioned Wednesday, Kinew didn't clearly state why government is making the distinction between grocery stores and other food retailers, like convenience stores or mom-and-pop shops.

Locations that are less than 280 square meters in size, are licensed to sell tobacco products and are located in a city will not benefit from PST relief. The tax will continue to be applied at vending machines and restaurants, including takeout food.

That’s too bad. I thought the Kinew government was all for competition (because are trying to get rid of those legal clauses that allow grocery stores to prevent competition from opening up nearby). But this seems to be an anticompetitive decision.
