In the Batman CW show and comics (and I’m going to use DC canon lore for the CW show too), Batman’s mother, Martha Wayne, whose maiden name is Kane, comes from an extremely wealthy family. The Kanes are just as wealthy as the Waynes and even own a chemical company that makes Jacob Kane (Kate’s dad) a billionaire on his own. So why would Kate join the army if her entire fucking family are billionaires?

Well, I haven't watched the show, so I can't say much there.

But iirc, both of her parents were career military,. Being a comic character, that her mother and sister got killed. Because, you know, gotta stack the angst for any bat character

She went into west point, and had planned to do so pretty early in life.

Some families are just like that. You go to the same schools as the parents did, and if the family is military, you do that too.

That being said, I guess the real question is why the Kanes were so deep in the military in the first place. I wasn't super into the character, and never read all her appearances in order. Never read all of them at all, but reading out of order means that not only might I have missed why the family is super military, but I could have details skewed a little.

Anyway, as best as I can recall, it was the whole thing worry the kidnapping that led to her mom and sister dying that made her go hard into west point.

Edit: also, I'm not sure if Batwoman is sci-fi or not
