Well, 15 years of family photos that were take on old phones they no longer have is worth a bit. Yes, the user should have backed it up, but if they were taking the pics in side the app, that's easier said then done.

I'd be more than happy to see the platform fold.

Whatsapp has an option to save all chat pictures to the device. It's easier said than done, but barely. You only need to turn on that option, then turn on backups for that folder in your phone's backup system, if it isn't automatic.

half a dozen different solutions have come and gone. Most of them will suck down all your videos and then charge you for being out of space. Plex used to have sync, So did Amazon.

I've moved on to syncthing now, selfhosted ftw
