On certain vehicles, the wiring for the third-row left-hand (driver’s side) seat belt buckle could become damaged when the buckle is pulled. As a result, the seat belt status indicator in the instrument panel may incorrectly show that a seat belt is buckled when it’s not.

Honestly how did they design it such that a damaged (I assume disconnected?) connection can falsely register as a valid signal in a safety critical system? Betting it's a cost thing.
