Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

I'll edit my responses here...

A small anecdote here: I read a few days ago that apparently, Alzheimer's patients get their daily routine and circadian rhythm knocked around by this policy

Edit 2: It's funny how people are talking about time, as if this were my 2nd post of discussion on why time measurement is bullshit, on my account...

Some memorable replies here:

another point is that it's probably not great for animals with a strong internal clock

Do not make me get up an hour earlier I will fucking cut you.

On the other hand it is nice the park is open later but have you considered just adequately lighting the park bike paths?

it's bad and we should commemorate the inventor with a public toilet

Can you count to 16 on one hand?

I can count to 10, 12, 24, 28, 31, 33 or 34 on one hand, depending on how I wanna do it. I feel like it's all vibes. One wants a specific number system and work backwards to retroactively rationalise it, looking for specifics that support it. It's like people arguing imperial is better than metric because it "makes more sense".

Well yeah, with computation none of this really matters. It's vibes.

I vibe with 1/3 being as easy to express as 1/2 and 1/4 but that's purely aesthetic lol

It makes more sense to you, because you grew up with it.

Figuring out how to use the thumb to count the 12 digits on one hand is a galaxy-brain moment lol
