They aren't being conscripted into a war, so your analogy doesn't work.

If I was forced to fight, I'd rather turn on the one that forces me than on the ones they tell me to fight.

This war isn't going to stop until Putin gets threatened to do so by his own population.

Because the west sure as hell isn't going to let Ukraine just roll over and let Russia get away with yet an other territory that does not belong to them.
