I installed the newer version of revanced on my SO’s phone and after a while it started just like… stopping videos out of nowhere. By that point I forgot how to reinstall it, and didnt feel like relearning all that, so unfortunately it’s back to ad city :/

[-] gridleaf@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Updates should have fixed that issue. I was getting it for a while too.

[-] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago

I can’t remember how to update unfortunately.

[-] WillFord27@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

They have a discord server that's pretty active. I know you have to first get the Revanced Manager, then download the recommended YouTube apk, and then patch it through the Manager

[-] time_fo_that@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Yeah it needs to be updated every once in a while. I've been on the same build for a few weeks with no issues thankfully.

[-] DragonOracleIX@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

Same. I haven't updated in over 2 weeks with no issues at all.

Well I do on my computer, but is it on android as well?

[-] systemglitch@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I use Firefox with ublock origin and all YouTube videos open through ff, which is superior to the app.

This is the way. Only reason I open the android yt app these days is to cast to smartTube on the TV which also has no ads.

[-] Corngood@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 months ago

On Firefox, yeah

In my experience libretube with default instances is bad, I couldn't even watch a single video without buffering every 3 minutes for a minute.

With a selfhosted instance however, libretube is perfect

This is the GOAT IMHO, it is worth it even if you pay for YT premium.

[-] bitwolf@lemmy.one 4 points 9 months ago

Thankfully YouTube outs itself with the "most replayed" graph in the video timeline.

You can just skip right to the peak which is always right after the sponsor bit.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

yeah but sponsorblock can identify more: intros, filler content, self promotion, non music parts of a music video... also has a highlight indicator which skips to the most relevant part.

these are crowdsourced so not 100% but still pretty good

Adblockers time is coming to an end sadly. If it isn't this round, eventually someone is going to make it impossible to use the Internet with an adblocker.

Money owns the internet and money wants more money.

[-] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Lol sure the entire open source community is just gonna give up. You called it.

[-] freagle@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 9 months ago

There's just one small problem which is that my computer is a general purpose machine which means I can make it do whatever I want. They can invent new tricks, but we can always counter them.
