To clarify, since you're getting down voted. You have to carry liability insurance in case you damage someone's property or harm someone with your car. If you crashed in to someone, your insurance would pay for the damages to the person and their car, but your own car would require you to pay out of pocket. You can also get insurance to cover your own car, (which is sometimes required on leased/financed vehicles) which would cover damage to your car in the case of an uninsured or underinsured driver, weather, vandalism and more. I'm sure this is what you meant, but you didn't say it in a way that made sense to a lot of people.
