I love how the sovereign citizen group page has the American flag in their picture. Like what are you sovereign from if you're still American?

[-] franklin@lemmy.world 142 points 10 months ago

Taxes and responsibility mostly.

[-] 800XL@lemmy.world 105 points 10 months ago

And they don't need to pay taxes or anything but are entitled to everything taxes collectively pay for.

[-] jumjummy@lemmy.world 62 points 10 months ago

And don’t forget that all these Soverign Citizen IDs, License Plates, etc. are bought with real money. Curious how these “coupons” don’t seem to work on these storefronts.

[-] SkippingRelax@lemmy.world 38 points 10 months ago

You know what, that has crossed my mind a few times as THE reason even the most gullible idiot on this planet should have an eureka moment

[-] wesker 103 points 10 months ago

no ... insurance required

God, fuck this person.

[-] ceenote@lemmy.world 30 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Nice of him to put a sign on his car listing the laws he's breaking.

Probably not all of them, though.

[-] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 16 points 10 months ago

Did you know that in New Hampshire you aren't required to have car insurance? Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing...

[-] sparky1337@ttrpg.network 25 points 10 months ago

You aren’t either in Virginia. The DMV charges a yearly $500 fee for you to keep your license active but…..yea.

[-] Macallan@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

You don't need it in AZ too, but you have to post a bond with the state.

[-] Uranium3006@kbin.social 14 points 10 months ago

I believe most if not all states allow a bond in place of insurance but it's a huge amount so I bet hardly anyone does it

[-] Pogogunner@kbin.social 7 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Not all states do

Mississippi only requires $10,000
Maine requires the most at $127,000

NH where the state motto is “live free or die”

You just know this person complains about the government tracking them and the police state of America while simultaneously driving one of the most tracking capable vehicles.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 10 months ago

the idea that cars mean freedom is truly the most impressive piece of marketing ever pulled off, mmm yes i can certainly smell the freedom as i sit in a mile long queue on the highway huffing recycled exhaust fumes.

meanwhile a bicycle is so untraceable that if someone steals one it effectively becomes theirs, and combined with public transport you can spend your night sleeping on a train and wake up for some adventures in a completely different country.

[-] TheFriar@lemm.ee 8 points 10 months ago

Not to mention you can get a train ticket with cash. Literally no one needs to know who you are.

Between plates like this, odd looking flags, and red hats I have learned how to avoid dangerously foolish people.

I sure am glad that they're deciding to mark themselves.

But The Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock was who first turned me into a red baseball cap admirer. The last 10 years have been a nightmare but it’s better than it was.

Can't wait for them not to learn a lesson in front of a judge.

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 44 points 10 months ago

Yeah... I wouldn't go around announcing lack of license & insurance 🤦‍♀️ What are they THINKING??

Methinks the followers of this movement are being trolled by the "leaders" of this movement

[-] federalreverse@feddit.de 24 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Do you have 1h46m? Because there's an explanatory Münecat video. The whole "non-commercial travel" thing has a significance as well — US sovcits think if they announce that, they don't need a license.

[-] TheEntity@kbin.social 47 points 10 months ago

I do not have a contract with you and I do not consent to paddling off these two hours of my life I'm never getting back.

[-] cheezoid2@sh.itjust.works 24 points 10 months ago

Without prejudice

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Thank you. I dived in. My attention span held out the first 24 minutes.

So far my main takeaway is that anyone who wants to stand up as a sovereign citizen needs to have a loud persistent unwavering personality and attitude for this. The kinda person who's good at memorizing all this and talking loudly & incessantly, and never backs down.

Kinda the same personality it requires to be a lawyer, but sovereign citizens refuse to submit to the system. They're standing up for fundamental human rights and they're willing to martyr themselves for it, one legal confrontation at a time.

[-] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

Quick, smash their car so they can defend their sovereignty.

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

The Sovereign Citizen movement was originally set up by Big Autoglass to increase sales

i think thats the point. its like scientology, except its targetting people who are paranoid of big brother.

[-] generalpotato@lemmy.world 40 points 10 months ago

No insurance required huh? Would be unfortunate if something were to happen their car.

I'm surprised they can afford a car, never mind a Plaid.

[-] mean_bean279@lemmy.world 30 points 10 months ago

Model S Plaids are probably not as expensive as you think. They’re even more affordable when you don’t pay taxes nor insurance.

[-] Car@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 10 months ago

eBay motors sold listings make me think they aren’t getting into a used Model S Plaid for less than around 55k. If they aren’t paying taxes or insurance, they aren’t paying down a loan for the car because the creditor would repossess that shit so fast.

[-] mean_bean279@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

I bet that car is either recently purchased or they’re actually paying their loan considering that you can disable a Tesla with the Vin. It’s one of the most connected cars in the world.

People buying more car than they can afford is the American Way.

You know the sad thing is, I bet a lot of cops don't pull them over because they know it's going to be a huge hassle for them.

[-] PR3CiSiON@lemmy.world 25 points 10 months ago

Eh, on the other hand, some cops LOVE the fight.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

And even though I hate cops I also don't blame them because cops have died at the hands of sovcits before. I really don't disagree.

[-] st3ph3n@midwest.social 22 points 10 months ago

I look forward to seeing this appear in a bodycam video soon.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 19 points 10 months ago

In their make believe world, is stealing from a sovcitizen a crime? Since "the law" doesn't apply and the cops "have no authority", it sure looks like they're walking around with "free loot"

[-] some_guy 7 points 10 months ago

First time I've seen anyone propose this, but I remember in a vid where a man referred to his child daughter as "property," so I think they have strong beliefs about this topic.

[-] Aurolei@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

Taxes pay for roads. If you are a sovereign citizen, I don't see why you would be allowed to use or park on them.

[-] Redfugee@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

They don't use or park on them.. they travel on them (or whatever bullshit they say).

This fake license plate is very aesthetically pleasing. Still don't use fake license plates...

[-] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

That always works, I've seen the videos
