The problem in the picture isn’t the bikes, it’s the inconsiderate way in which they’ve been parked; as you say the problem can be rectified quite easily.

I’d be annoyed if I came across this while trying to pass in exactly the same way I’d be annoyed if I came across a car parked across the cycle lane or across the kerb.

As for bicycle “hate”, I have no idea how to fix that. I recently came across a whole host of whacky conspiracy theories from people who think legislation that discourages vehicle use (emissions charges, congestion charges, 15-minute town, pedestrianisation, restricting petrol/diesel, even bus and cycle lanes) is all some elitist (globalist, WEF, insert other group here) plot as part of a war on “freedom”. It’s a rabbit hole I’ve now explored once, briefly, and I’m not going back in there. Too much crazy. But these people cannot see the freedom of bikes and appear to really hate them. Worse - they’re often the people who think bicycles need licensing and registration; there’s a real overlap.

I Ried my bike every day. I love bikes. Parking like that is an egoistic cock move, because you block people in wheelchairs, people with baby's in strollers, old people that need walkers etc etc.

I don't care if it's a bike, an electric rental scooter (in my experience most often the offenders in these cases) or a shitty car half hanging on the sidewalk

This picture is from the Netherlands where there are more bikes than people. There is generally great bike infrastructuur (including parking), no urban sprawl and decent taxes on car ownership and use This is appropriate mildly infuriating. There bikes should just park in proper parking or where they are not in the way.

If you were in a wheelchair you would care a lot more about those bikes. Or if you were pushing a stroller

Wanting to knock those bikes down doesn't mean someone hates bikes. I strongly dislike cars, and have driven bikes my entire life (cause, netherlands), and if I walked past these bikes I'd also feel a slight temptation to kick them down (no, I wouldn't actually do it).

You claim it's a small problem, but would you feel that way if a car parked half way on the sidewalk? It's not a small problem for someone in a wheelchair. They already face enough obstacles, and people who do this aren't helping.

Bikes being great and cars being horrible doesn't change that someone here was being inconsiderate with their bike.

Dunno man, seems like the typical response here in the NL. If you break the unspoken etiquette by leaving your bike on the walkway, other people feel less inclined to adhere to the unspoken etiquette of being careful with your stuff

Look, I hate cars as much as everyone here but that post is valid. It may be a small thing to you but to many its definitely not. I actually love that the top comment in there is talking about how this impacts wheelchair users like myself and others who can't just walk around or move the bikes in the way. I'm here because car infrastructure is inaccessible af for many disabled people, I'm not here to swap one inaccessible system for another. The general bike hate is another topic but please recognize that post isn't just being petty.

They definitely should have used one of the many bike parking spaces there in front of these shops instead!

I find this picture hilarious in a really sad and aggravating way. Everyone complains how the bikes block the path for pedestrians, strollers, wheelchairs. But pictured on that very same image is how the entire sidewalk is narrowed to make room for cars. That one car takes up twice as much space as those two bikes and likely transported half an many people. And if you're on foot, in a wheelchair or pushing a stroller you can move the bicycles out of the way. You can't move the car out of your way.

i mean at least its not too hard to shift them if they get in the way.
