Any replies welcome, but I’m primarily in search of a new iOS client. I heard Raccoon is similar but last I checked it was Android only.

Just wanted to comment, this isn't a Voyager issue breaking compatibility with Beehaw. They have given us a lot of warning and efforts at keeping backwards compatibility. This was Beehaws decision to not upgrade Lemmy to a version that Voyager supports.

Fair distinction, edited title

Voyager doesn't support Lemmy 18.x anymore, and Beehaw is getting ready to leave Lemmy so won't upgrade servers beyond 18.

The "solution" is Native version of Voyager (download an older version), but that means no more upgrades.

I haven't been really active on Beehaw for a while now. Where can I read more about Beehaw leaving Lemmy?

[-] alyaza@beehaw.org 16 points 4 months ago

anything of importance is generally going to be mirrored on the Docs page, so for example: Beehaw, Lemmy, and A Vision of the Fediverse

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 8 points 4 months ago

I tried to look on their home page and didn't see any stickied post about that, nothing on their mastodon recently seems to say anything about it, I'd feel a little awkward joining their discord just to spy about it since I'm not actually a Beehaw member, I'm on Kbin, I just enjoy their posts and community, I would also be very interested to know if they're confirmed moving shop.

Thanks so much for the link to that. I can understand the issues that the admins are dealing with in regards to Lemmy as a platform. Though there's a very likely chance, it looks like they haven't solidified whether they're leaving or exactly what they'll transition to, but I fundamentally enjoy the philosophy Beehaw shoots for, so I'm interested to see what goes on next regardless.

[-] admin@beehaw.org 13 points 4 months ago

We are leaving the Lemmy platform. And we (the admins) know which platform that we are moving to. We just haven't made a public announcement yet. That is coming soon.

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 8 points 4 months ago

I appreciate the communication. I'll be looking out for the info, then!

[-] Zworf@beehaw.org 8 points 4 months ago

Ah so in other words even if Voyager kept supporting 18.x Lemmy it wouldn't work anyway because you will move to another platform?

That's ok though, I am happy to use it standalone, though I will be sad about losing Voyager which is really an amazing app.

I'm looking forward to seeing where you're going with this. Though I will still use other Lemmy instances.

[-] admin@beehaw.org 10 points 4 months ago

I'm almost certain that the platform we are moving to will be compatible with all the current Lemmy apps. If that's the case, then you'll be able to use Voyager again with Beehaw.

Friendship ended with lemmy
[TBD] is my new best friend

[-] Zworf@beehaw.org 6 points 4 months ago

Oh wow that's even better! Thanks!

[-] Midnitte@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago

Just because I seem to be out of the loop, is there an official community to see such communication? I saw the blog post about the reasoning, but it would be nice if there was a community to follow to see such official communication

[-] admin@beehaw.org 4 points 4 months ago

You'd see such things as pinned posts here at Beehaw.

[-] Zworf@beehaw.org 7 points 4 months ago

Yeah this was news to me too.

Having said that though, I created an account on lemmy.ml at first and the attitudes there are weird. I think the description of "tankies" is pretty accurate. I don't like extreme-anything whether it's left or right. And because this is the main platform of the Lemmy devs I can see how this ends up permeating a lot of the discussions.

[-] renard_roux@beehaw.org 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

As a die-hard Voyager user (until now, that is), I think you'll be very happy with Raccoon.

I didn't expect to find anything that could replace Voyager, and have been pleasantly surprised so far 👍

EDIT: Android only, AFAIK, sorry.

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 5 points 4 months ago

But does it work on iOS? I looked through the page again and don’t see any mention of it

I used that for a while, but the development seems to have ground to a halt while bugs and missing features mount.

Too bad, because I really liked it.

[-] sjmarf@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Mlem dev here! We're still working on it - a PR is merged every couple of days on our GitHub. It's true that development isn't as active as it used to be in the height of the Reddit migration, which unfortunately leads to new features being announced less frequently, but that's to be expected. We're working towards another release sometime in the coming weeks.

If you noticed any bugs with Mlem and you'd like to report them, you can do so here and we'll look into it 👍

Side note: We don't currently have any plans to drop Lemmy 0.18 support. Supporting 0.18 isn't a major technical challenge for us at the moment, so we don't really have a reason to drop support for it.

[-] gregorum@lemm.ee 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

glad to hear you guys are still developing the app! i hope that better markdown support/markdown shortcuts in the editor, image uploads from a comment, gif support, and the inbox count bug get some attention in the next update! Mlem seems to be the only app missing those, and it would be great to come back as i think Mlem has the best interface!

[-] sjmarf@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Uploading images in comments will be in the next update, along with a fix for the inbox count bug! We're also working on a Mark Read on Scroll option, a Modlog page and support for moderator actions (which have all been highly requested features).

Unfortunately, full markdown support is rather tricky to do. We've done some deeper research into how we might implement this since the last time it was suggested; it's a large undertaking that would require some significant time input, but it should be possible. It's not something we're scoping for the upcoming update, but it's something we hope to dedicate time to further down the line.

[-] gregorum@lemm.ee 6 points 4 months ago

sounds great, and look forward to it!

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago

I used to use mlem! It had a few quirks but otherwise was perfect. Right now I’m testing out Arctic, I’ll keep it in mind. Thank you!

[-] renard_roux@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago

Damn, sorry, I missed you iOS requirement 😔

Don't think that's a thing, sorry 😐

[-] Swimmerman96@beehaw.org 3 points 4 months ago

I use Thunder! I've been using it for a long time now, and really like it.

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 4 points 4 months ago

I’ll give it a try, thank you!

[-] BDC@beehaw.org 3 points 4 months ago

I’ve been using Arctic on iOS for the last few days. I like it well enough, though based on the post elsewhere in this thread I’ll probably migrate back to Voyager once beehaw migrates to whatever they’re moving to.

[-] YooHooBandit@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago

Wow nice find! Been using “Bean for Lemmy” for many months but I don’t think it’s had active development for a while so I was considering swapping for something else. Will be giving it a go. Thanks!

[-] GammaGames@beehaw.org 2 points 4 months ago

Just downloaded, I like it!! I think I’ll stick with it for a while

[-] retronautickz@beehaw.org 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I don't have iOS, so I never used voyager. And to be honest, it's been a lot since I used a mobile app to access Beehaw; I only do so through the web.

Now with the moving away from Lemmy to a different software confirmed, I'm waiting to see what the options are for the new platform and choose a new app from that.
