I'm fucking pumped for both of them. I've been playing BG3 for two years and am hype as fuck to FINALLY play the rest of the god damn game. And Starfield? God I hope Bethesda give me some Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout3/4 level goodness. Fallout 76 was something I'm glad I skipped.

Right? I've always been so perplexed by "the gaming community" tendency towards trying make everything a popularity contest... especially when the games aren't even the same genre.

Both games look like a lot of fun, and we no longer live in the age of only being able to obtain 1-2 new games every year due to availability issues.

The only competition is in terms of time and money you want to put into it, and... IDK man buy whichever one you're more excited about first, buy the other when you have money and time to play it. /shurg Hell, wait long enough and you might even get it on sale.

TBH, I think at least part of it is the tendency for companies to exploit human nature for profit; it's not necessarily a gaming community thing as it is a "tribalism is a convenient way to establish and maintain a consumer base, and it's been ingrained to the point it crops up even when the publishers/companies in question aren't actively cultivating it," thing.

I have been playing F76 to pass the time until BG3, and it's really not a bad game at all. It's kind of like Elderscrolls Online is to Skyrim what F76 is to Fallout 4.

The general writing and world building seem up to par when compared Fallout 4, but because it's online they make inventory management a bit of a pain to upsell you on the QoL subscription. (Exactly like ESO).

It's not worth jumping into now (with BG3, then Starfield) but if you ever find a down moment again I'd recommend it.

It got a lot of deserved criticism at first because it was a mess but I played at launch and still had a ton of fun despite the problems. Playing with someone probably helped but I always thought all the lore and stuff you could find was great and fit right into the series. I plan to go back eventually and play it in a more complete and less broken state lol

I'm not that pumped for procedurally generated planets. I AM pumped for hand-crafted levels and dialogue spanning 170hours.

If I'm being honest, I'm probably more pumped for Starfield. Which is why I'm pleased that BG3 pushed the release date a month forward, so I don't have to choose between them.

It at least gives me more time to upgrade my PC. I'm below minimum specs for Starfield. 😓

My main gaming device is a steam deck so I'm a little concerned myself, but I pay for Microsoft Gamepass with cloud streaming for my kids, and I'll use that if I have to. Or the associated Xbox.

I know.

Can't wait to build myself a gorram SERENITY lookalike and begin my piratey career, becoming the scourge of the thousand planets. I will attack swiftly with no warning, leaving no witnesses, eluding all bounty hunters and militia, thus forging my own legend of the ghost pirate that plagues the known space.

In the meantime, you will travel with a bunch of angsty hobos, who dislike you, in hope that a bug in game's engine allows you to be carnally exploited by an animal.
