What sim racing games are you all playing these days? Here's a few of my current favourites: EA WRC BeamNG.Drive

Can’t beat a bit of Colin McRae Rally 2.0. 😂

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Ooooof I downloaded that on the Miyoo Mini fully not expecting to play it or enjoy it, but bloody hell it's so fun 😂

[-] EighthLayer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Same! I used to play it a lot as a kid. A right throwback.

I feel like the handling physics of it still hold up better than some of the modern arcade rally games to be honest haha

RBRHU, Assetto, BeamNG, iRacing. They're all great! Haven't driven in a while though. I go through phases.

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

When you say RBRHU, is that Richard Burns Rally the Hungarian rally sim fans version, as in RSF?

Same one that I use! It’s great. I just wish I didn’t have to download a new installer every time it needed an update 😂

Dirt Rally 1.0 on steamdeck

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Oh I had this installed for a while actually! Would ordinarily try and have DR2 installed but that file size is not the one…

[-] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah 2.0 seemed cool, but I'm not big on the DRM it uses. 1.0 has some crazy physics, but I think they're fun. I like the menu music better too.

Automobilista 2

With the racecraft.online community there are really nice and clean races with a casual friendly ranking system.

Lots of classes and tracks, nice damage simulation.

There are a lot of tracks and cars only available through dlc but the technical updates are free.

Are there enough players on RCO now? I was active there a while ago, but the player numbers dropped to only 1 or 2 players per race after a short hype. And I don't like racing with AI.

[-] Reggie@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

I play there since April and started with the gt4 class. There were almost always enough players to not trigger the ai. On evenings\weekends around 7-12 racers average with peaks up to 20. Since last week the new season started and now multiclass races are supported which should result in even more players per race

[-] squirrel@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

Sounds good. Maybe I should give it another try.

Y'know, I've seen this name thrown about a lot but not looked into it at all. Just stuck it on my list to have a look at, thanks!

Oooh now I have this too but have a hard time of having the patience to sit and get all the mods in a line and working 😂

I have content manager, but it seems like so much of the good content is gatekept behind loads of different random websites that also want you to create an account with them. Is there an easier way?

[-] middlemanSI@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

All the mods you will ever need are on racedepartment. One account. You can then drag&drop racedepartment links into CM and get an option to install that mod. Most public servers run native content anyway, like Lotus Exos, Tatuus or Mazda MX5. The sim is still the best at physics, like RBR is for rally!

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Oh that’s good to know. I think there were just so many I didn’t really look into them individually. Thanks!

I have a few others, but mostly just race in iRacing. Just started a few months ago, so still working on my kit.

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah I always wanted to try iRacing but....my wallet...I'm trying to protect it 🤣

Yeah, it definitely isn't the least expensive option. Sticking to one or two series can help keep it down somewhat. I've still spent a lot more on hardware than software, with much yet to go as well.

Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione

Heard good things about beam ng

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I have competizione but never booted it up. I think the GT3 class is something that I never vibed with really. That said I've never driven it so there's still time!

Edit: just gotta add- BeamNG.drive is quite possibly the most underrated driving game out there! You get way more for your money than you'd expect. I cannot speak highly enough of it.

[-] AstralPath@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago

Competitzione has really nice feel. Tire model is great! I only really like hotlapping in GT cars so that's what I use it for.

[-] harrybo93@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah I reckon I’ll give it a go soon enough. I also really don’t enjoy sequential shifters. Love me some old school manual shift!
