I don’t think this is cool. I think it’s fear-mongering silliness. Everything on this guide is designed to make middle class people afraid of the nebulous, dangerous prowler who… cases parking lots and freeways for people to rob? What?

Most burglaries are opportunistic, and most burglars aren’t Sherlock Holmes style deducing facts about their targets lives from their bumper stickers. This guide just helps folks feel more paranoid.

Also, Richland is the worst of the Tri-Cities.

Robberies are opportunistic, but broadcasting a lot of useful information about yourself can present such an opportunity, singling you out as an attractive target to a robber who otherwise would have been unaware of you.

In other words, you don’t have to outrun the lion, just the antelopes straggling at the edge of the herd. Announcing a lot of facts about your probable lifestyle puts you closer to the lion.
