It's all good I'm still mostly getting 1 upvote, similar to reddit

[-] Rentlar@beehaw.org 25 points 1 year ago

You're doing your best and that's OK!

He was moved by the speech Obama gave for him.

[-] BrewJajaja@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Oh wow, of course, duh. It was so obviously obvious.

[-] Saik0Shinigami@lemmy.saik0.com 20 points 1 year ago

It's seems that my audience was also mostly just one person... That person is dedicated though.

Seeings subreddits namedropped makes me teary-eyed 🥺

~~(I know Reddit is still technically alive, but it’s dead to me now)~~

My account here is 4 years old. I was so excited to learn about Lemmy back then, but the user base was painfully low. I'm getting that same excitement I had back then.

Please new people, make this your permanent home and forget Reddit!

[-] not_a_dog@lemmy.one 7 points 1 year ago

And the Reddit blackout hasn't even started yet. Gonna be interesting to see what this place looks like a week from now. I'm excited!

I'm grateful to see open source softwares blow up online

[-] sagittarie@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

Yes, I'm very proud of the Reddit community for several times over the years mass-recommending open source and federated options.

[-] asexualchangeling@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago

It's honestly been amazing to witness, it's still got a ways to go before it's anything like mainstream but still

I joined a year ago and it's crazy, i remember getting excited over 20 upvotes, that AMA and the whole 3rd party fiasco really brought a lot of people here!

I feel nostalgic in advance for having stumbled on an inside joke that I was almost around early enough to be on the inside of but can nevertheless clearly project myself there.

"I'm doing my part!" is probably the most used meme on Lemmy

My first comment was the most upvoted comment on a subreddit. I got 19 upvoted.

[-] mrmanager@lemmy.today 19 points 1 year ago

People are just much more supportive and friendlier here. But I guess because we are in a state now before all the assholes join from reddit...

[-] 21trillionsats@infosec.pub 24 points 1 year ago

Oh shit it actually worked, upvotes for all. Sorry for shitting on you mLem!

[-] BrewJajaja@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago

Wait is there a specific Lemmy person? Because I initially though that this site was some Motorhead fan page that evolved into a reddit alternative lol lol. Im so old.

[-] hschen@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 year ago

Nah its named after Lemmy, but not a fan page haha

[-] ndr@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

From their Github:

Why's it called Lemmy?

  • Lead singer from Motörhead.
  • The old school video game.
  • The Koopa from Super Mario.
  • The furry rodents.
[-] gun@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago

I remember before federation was an implemented feature and there were like 5 instances that couldn't talk with each other. I feel old now.

[-] TauZero@mander.xyz 8 points 1 year ago

I remember reddit before even subs when it was just a single page for tech news :(

[-] fernandu00@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Where do you track your upvotes? O use jerboa BTW

[-] SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 year ago

There's no karma total, lemmy only tracks you individual post/comment vote counts. Break free of the shackles of Karma Addiction!

[-] SubArcticTundra@beehaw.org 9 points 1 year ago

Top right of comment next to comment age. Besides that, Lemmy does not calculate total karma

[-] mobiuscoffee@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

I rather like how total karma isn't tracked. I wonder how other people feel though?

[-] ndr@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

It is a good thing, objectively. But at least on Mlem there is kind of an equivalent of the karma in the profile page (comment score and post score), if you miss that. 😎

Some may interact less though if there is no karma; gamification works after all. I guess we’ll see.
