Exactly it was something chicken-like, but not a chicken

The nearly-chicken came first

Your post is a bit confusing because you play both sides, but yeah, the answer is that the egg came first, and it was from something that was not a chicken. Meaning the offspring was an evolved offspring fetus inside of an egg, and then hatched into the evolved offspring animal, a chicken.
