I once saw fruity flavoured toothpaste and cannot wrap my head around how your mouth can possibly feel clean after that

[-] Dave2@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 3 months ago

Aren't those for children, like for building habits and shit

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

You know what, that makes a lot more sense

I assumed it was for people who were sensitive to mint

[-] TheCoolerMia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 months ago

I had a strawberry flavored one as a kid and holy fuck it was so horrible, it made my whole mouth cringe so much >v< but The Adults™ kept saying that mint is the bad one and no it's not??? and if it was so bad y even were they using it??? X3 so one time at the dentist they were cleaning my teeth and let me choose mint or strawberry as usual and I thought mint couldn't possibly be worse so I chose that for once and yup, it was fine :P

I wonder if I can find some in bubblegum flavor...

[-] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

But does the taste liner after washing your mouth? Especially with a mouth wash? Listerine mint ones has quite a strong taste so I would imagine that won't be a problem.

We used to have chocolate and bubblegum flavored toothpaste sold unironically to adults. I guess people had really bad oral hygiene then

I'd love to use herb toothpaste, but it all seems to be very expensive and fluoride-free. I found one I really liked at a drugstore in Paris once, but I can't seem to get it in the US.

Like herbal remedy or just herbs besides mint? Rosemary toothpaste?

[-] pooberbee@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago

Herbal flavor. Rosemary would be nice

[-] TheTetrapod@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Why not? Rosemary is lovely.

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Not by itself and not as toothpaste imo

[-] azi@mander.xyz 2 points 3 months ago

If it's fluoride free then it doesn't do much. Get toothpaste with actual medicinal ingredients

Better than asking a dentist is asking a dental hygienist. Dentists are dental surgeons primarily concerned with solving specific problems with surgical intervention. Hygienists are oral health nurses concerned with preventive care and overall health and wellbeing.

And listen to your hygienist. There is no cure-all toothpaste for everyone (eg not everyone needs anti-sensitivity toothpaste, the risk of erosion in whitening toothpastes might be a concern for some people, some people need higher fluoride concentrations, etc)

I have sensory aversion to mint and I need clean teeth. Cinnamon toothpaste does the job for me

[-] Smoogs@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Huh weird. I’m the opposite in where my mouth bursts into blisters if I use cinnamon but mint is totally fine.

[-] Faydaikin@beehaw.org 2 points 3 months ago

I'm not good with mint either. Triggers my gag reflex something fierce.

Using Mango-toothpaste at the moment.
