Software and stores aside, one of the things I appreciate about Valve is you never see them talking about what they want to do, they just do it. They may not always do what I want as a game developer, but as a game platform they seem to be pretty dialed in on what users want. I have yet to see any hint of that from Epic.

How the fuck does anyone believe in capitalism if Epic hasn't gone under forcing people to use their horrible store?

I don't know anyone who uses steam chat or parties instead of something like Discord, so I'm not sure it really matters.

The issue with steam group chat is that discord has existed longer and has incumbency. My friend group tried it out some time ago and the features are all there, the issue was getting people adjacent to our group to bother. We keep it as a backup though.

I have definitely used both of those and I use the chat often. Often times I link up with people from steam forums (or elsewhere) to help with achievements in game and having to add them on discord is just another step that I dont want to do and takes longer.

With that being said even if those are added I'm not moving my ' library' of games to epic

At the very least, Lemmy users care. They continually claim that's their number one issue with Epic Games as an alternative to Steam.

Really? I would think the biggest problem Lemmy users have with Epic is their business practices, not a lack of social features.

That's what people complained about in the few recent posts I saw about Epic Games and Steam in this community.

It's just one of the many, many things Steam does that Epic does not. It's not the be all end all, and simply adding a friend's list and a chat is not going to be enough to make EGS relevant.

Stream friends are used all the time by my gaming groups. See what people are playing, join them (right click on name, join)
