Looking to find more indie/small-web content to replace big tech sites. I enjoy Lemmy and Mastodon, but does anyone know any good Gemini and Gopher protocol sites that actively post content?

Gopher? Now there's something I haven't heard about in a long time

Gopher is still very much alive. There are quite a few gopher blogs (AKA phlogs or glogs) out there. Here are some popular phlog aggregators, you can use lynx (my favorite) or a web proxy in a standard browser to view them. Some clients will let you browse gopher or gemini, like lagrange, castor, bombadillo or elpher.

  • gopher://gopher.black/1/moku-pona
  • gopher://1436.ninja/1/moku-pona
  • gopher://gopher.club/1/phlogs
  • gopher://i-logout.cz/1/bongusta/
  • gopher://typed-hole.org/1/roll

Lists of known active gopher servers:

  • gopher://gopher.viste.fr/1/ogup/
  • gopher://gopherspace.de/1/alive/new.report.php
  • gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/world
  • gopher://kamalatta.ddnss.de/1/links

Gopher search:

  • gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/7/v2/vs
  • gopher://forthworks.com/1/contrition
  • gopher://gopher.icu/7/quarry

Some popular gopher sites with collections of links or general information about gopher:

  • gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/
  • gopher://gopherproject.org/
  • gopher://bitreich.org/

I also have my own gopher site: gopher://gopher.unixlore.net/

Check these out as a starting point - gemini://smol.chorebuster.net/links-for-people-new-to-gemini.gmi

Damn, I was gonna suggest my site but then you said that you wanted the site to actively be posting and looks at posts, clearly I've been starving whoever's reading. 😆

I'd like to see your site :)

[–] Lionir@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

It's lionir.ca! It does both Gemini and HTTP

What are you using to view gemini sites?

That's probably not going to work well for me as I don't have an iPhone.

How do you like it?

[–] lori@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

There's an Android version of LaGrange, I don't know if it's on FDroid or if you just have to get the apk from github since the Android version is still in development but that's what I use for Gemini on Android with no complaints.

[–] Manbart@beehaw.org 3 points 2 years ago

It works well. I imagine browsers on other platforms are similar, Gemini doesn't offer a bunch of bells and whistles anyway

[–] Mummelpuffin@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

Larange, on Linux.

[–] Euphoma@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

I use elpher on Emacs.

[–] cabbasisolo@feddit.it 3 points 2 years ago

Lagrange on Windows and Android

[–] Starfish@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Castor is a nice Browser for this

I just browse from gemini://skyjake.fi/~Cosmos/ which is kind of like a link aggregator on Gemini.

[–] Manbart@beehaw.org 2 points 2 years ago

Sweet, that is the kind of thing I'm looking for. Thanks
