My ex-wife has been trying to contact me for a few weeks while I've been ignoring her because I assumed it was just more bullshit like always. But she managed to get in contact with my dad and the reason she has been trying to get a hold of me is because she apparently tested positive for syphilis and has had it for several years. So now I have to go get checked myself... Fucking A, man... I'm allergic to penicillins and I know that's the treatment if I end up having it. Not even in my life anymore and she still manages to cause me stress.

If you're allergic to penicillin, you'll most likely get doxycycline 100mg tabs twice per day for 10-14 days. The other alternative is clindamycin injections for 10-14 days... which they probably don't want to do.

Definitely get checked. Go to Planned Parenthood or your PCM or something.

Edit: also worth looking into WHEN you got diagnosed with an allergy to penicillin. Many children have to take it at some point and break out in hives but it's a transient allergy during childhood.

An allergy panel can sort it all out.

I can get tested for free right? I've been having trouble getting my Medicare back after only recently finding out it hasn't been active for the past 2 years.

My allergy was a recent development. Got strep throat about 3 years ago, was giving penicillin for a couple weeks and like 4 days before I would have ran out, I had a major allergic reaction to it. I was always taking amoxicillin or penicillin when I would get sick with stuff as a kid and never had any problems.

Planned Parenthood is free. Your PCM or an urgent care clinic could run around $200? I think? They'll probably run an RPR test to confirm after hearing your history. +/- $40 for pharmacy if you're positive or negative.

Some signs of syphilis (you don't need to answer these):
Did you ever get a painless chauncer (ulcer lookin thing) on the head of your penis?
Did you ever get a painless rash or sore on your palms?

Additional symptoms include fever, swollen lymph glands, sore throat, patchy hair loss, headaches, weight loss, muscle aches, and fatigue. These are usually late symptoms.

Haven't had any symptoms at all that I could attribute to anything out of the ordinary; muscle aches and fatigue maybe, but that's every day even when I'm healthy. I wouldn't put it past her to just make something like this up just to fuck with me, though.

If you end up on antibiotics, eat lots of pre and pro-biotics. The drugs can mess up your digestive system and it'll be super not fun.

did she give proof or is there a chance shes just really fucking with you? desperate exes can say the darndest things. absolutely do get tested but she may just be crying wolf

That sucks. Hopefully they can offer you an alternative. However, it sounds like she is doing the responsible thing. If she couldn’t get through to you as you didn’t answer, I would have thought a text was better than telling your dad.
