CANNED BREAD. (www.mashed.com)
submitted 1 week ago by stinky@redlemmy.com to c/chat@lemmy.one

Canned bread is made by pouring a cornmeal and molasses "batter" into a can, where it is "steamed until it rises." Unlike bread that is baked and then bagged, which can leave it vulnerable to mold growth, the steaming and canning process helps to ensure that your can of brown bread lasts.

It isn't great, IMO. The one I got was very dense and had a strong molasses flavor.

probably because of all the molasses

That’s what makes it delicious.

I know it's supposed to have molasses in it and in principle I don't object to molasses, but when I say "strong" I mean that there was way too much molasses for my taste.

I ate some old German WWII canned bread rations in 2003. They weren't great. This looks way better.
