Buddha Delight (hexbear.net)
submitted 3 days ago by Sulvor@hexbear.net to c/food@hexbear.net

Recently discovered this family owned Chinese restaurant that will sub tofu on any of their dishes at no charge, I’ve been 3 times so far it has been delicious every time.

This comes with a side of rice and your choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and it’s $10. The older couple who own it are really nice too, probably gonna hit it up once a week at least.

I had general tso's tofu last night! So good. I just recently got in love with the stuff after I tried it on a whim. I can see how people can easily be vegan as it's so tasty and perfectly mimics meat.

my partner and I used to go to a chinese buddhist place that was all vegan quite often. it was very good, I really liked how they did gluten and seitan. my only complaint was that that place didn't add garlic, onion, or hot peppers to any of their dishes.

I'm not a buddhist so I can't really speak to this, but my understanding is that some buddhist food leaves these kinds of strong flavours out because they heat up the blood (i.e. spray-bottle ). it's something I've encountered more than once at similar restaurants so it's at least somewhat common.

yep! I am a buddhist and the food we make at the temples has no alliums or capsicums for exactly that reason. Our temple has an exception for caffiene and oh the looks on the traveling bhikku and bhikkuni's (monks and nuns/feminine monks) faces they are never fans of this!

That looks so good! Buddha's Delight is my go-to at any Chinese restaurant.

Those vegetables look so delicious and the tofu cubes look immaculately prepared.
