I am surprised it took so long. This is genuinely useful feature, albeit with the restriction that you can't physically cover the webcam.

This is fucking scary, there will be undisclosed cameras embedded in all kinds of displays and it will happen faster than it can be regulated against.

Your smart TV will have a hidden camera that you can't turn off that makes sure you are watching the commercials.

There will be cameras hidden in hotel TVs observing guests.

This is basically the "telescreen" described in 1984:

The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment.
