I'm getting back into fighting games! And I don't want to wear out my gamepads or joycons, so can you recommend a good control stick?

A few criteria:

  • Wireless would be ideal
  • Compatible with PC mainly, but Switch and Playstation would be excellent too.
  • I'm mainly into BlazBlue and Injustice right now, not sure if that would affect my choices.

I can't think of any wireless sticks off the top of my head other than 8Bitdo's offering. They're generally not legal at tournaments.

Personally, I like just about anything from Hori. I like their Fighting Edge stick a great deal. It doesn't seem to be in production anymore, unfortunately. I've since modified mine pretty extensively but I liked it a lot right out of the box.

I have a Qanba Obsidian that I use whenever I play games on my computer. Again, it's out of production but Qanba now offers the Obsidian 2.

They're two of my favorite sticks and I own a lot.

Thank you! I hadn't heard of Qanba before - they definitely have some interesting joysticks.

The 8BitDo stick has been pleasant to use, and is compatible with a ton of systems. Why is it banned at tournaments? Wireless? Or something else non-standard about it?

Wireless. While players should be unpairing any controllers prior to their matches, sometimes they don't and a third party can wirelessly interfere (intentionally or not) with a match.

That makes sense, thanks!

OP you can check the hardware used at tournaments, by the way. Sorry I don't have the answer. Bump.

I have two Hori sticks, the RAP4 (modded) and fighting edge unmodded.

Both work great on pc and playstation. Hori at least had a switch stick, but not sure if any more. It was based on the RAP, which is a fine stick, even out of the box.

If you don't have budget constraints, ordering a custom could work too, since you could get it to work on the switch and ps. I don't think many sticks support both out of the box.

If you can leave the switch out, Qanba is real nice. Razer sticks are pretty cool too, very heavy and boxy, but I like that. And Hori is a bit more budget friendly.

The Nacon stick with Sanwa parts seems like a good deal too.
