Received message after latest update and crashed afterwards. Is this the right place to post about it?

Recommendation from app developer is to use web interface until your instance uptates to 0.18, and probably to 0.18.1 since than will captcha be back.

They had to do it since they changed from using websockets to http calls in 0.18. Maybe downgrading is of jerboa is possible.

And that won't probably take that long. The captcha code has already been written, it was just not yet properly reviewed. With some luck as early as next week.

Yeah, you can also take this opportunity to try out some other apps that are popping up. Liftoff is really active right now and should be backwards compatible with Lemmy 0.17.x

[-] 1divi3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I might try other apps. Although im waiting for sync for lemmy the most

You also have the option to downgrade the Jerboa app back to 0.0.34 until the instance shows BE: 0.18.0 at the bottom of the webpage.

Is there any page where Jerboa devs describes what is the policy for backward compatibility?

Since not all servers updated synchronously with new Lemmy release it's a good practice to support several older versions.

[-] EinfachUnersetzlich@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

I'd assume that'll be the case once it's out of alpha/beta test status.

Yup, that's the policy. I could find it on Matrix if you like, but basically the main dev isn't interested in spending the time for backwards compatibility, and nobody has yet stepped up.

So it's not like anyone is opposed. Priority right now is improving supporting new lemmy versions, followed by high priority bugs and features.

Plus it's been a few pretty hectic weeks for the devs. It's absolutely understandable there would be issues with this huge influx of new users and scramble to fix issues.

[-] smartwater0897@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah development speed should slow down in the future. Right now I understand the move away from websockets became really urgent to support all users. And now that's completed.

Next urgent thing is captcha I guess but that doesn't sound like a massive addition at least.

Customarily, backwards compatibility starts with version 1.x, so until Lemmy doesn't release a 1.x stable version, instead staying on a 0.x "let's break everything", backwards compatibility is more of a lucky coincidence.

The admin for my instance claims that 0.18 is very buggy, won't update the server until the next version is out and bugs are fixed. The new Jerboa still runs for me, but its a bit wonky... I might just downgrade back to the previous version until its sorted out.

[-] V4uban@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

If downgrade doesn't work, you can try using that fork: https://lemmy.ml/post/1498929

Do not sign out of your account during this time, as you will not be able to sign back in. If this is of interest to you.

Your admin is someone who controls your instance. This community is for the Jerboa app, and the app is informing you with the message

[-] smartwater0897@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yup I thought this would happen. I ended up using Lemmy.ml again until instances update. My phone updated Jerboa and now I can't get into my ordinary instance.

[-] Darorad@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You should be able to install v0.0.34 from the github https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/releases

[-] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Connect for Lemmy is a pretty stable alternative.

[-] Electricorchestra@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

For some reason it doesn't recognize my account and let me sign in.

I got the message from Jerboa using 0.0.35 from Fdroid but oddly I can just dismiss it and use it just fine. There is an 0.0.36 from Izzy but I'm not able to upgrade to it to test.

Yeah, I have two Lemmy accounts (one on Lemmy.ml and one on Lemmy.world, since Lemmy.ml won't let me add nsfw instances to my subscriptions list for whatever reason) and I've had to start using Thunder as my app for Lemmy.world and Jerboa for Lemmy.ml til this whole mess gets sorted out.

[-] techgearwhips@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Liftoff let's you use multiple accounts. You should try that.

[-] DishonestBirb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Well, I originally used Jerboa as it does as well, but with the current version problems I had to do something else until it's fixed.

[-] Ataraxia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I couldn't find any option to hide seen posts so it's a bit early in development. If there is an app that does all that this version of jerboa does AND let's you flip through posts instead of opening them individually I'd try it.

Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
