With all the war crimes Israeli soldiers have filmed and uploaded themselves, it is a real threat to the American narratives.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 29 points 1 month ago

i hope they keep doing that after tiktok goes away.

the videos of american troops beating & dragging people out of their homes in gaza and forced onto auschwitz style trains of full people will only surface on rednote (if anywhere at all) before it gets banned like tiktok.

if it weren't for the video evidence recorded by american troops during ww2; the holocaust would be little more than a consipracy theory; so these videos are important to remind ourselves that the victims of one genocide are perfectly happy committing a genocide themselves and that the same world's super power that has enabled and committed the worst of them will keep doing it no matter how much they insist it's "unamerican"

Nikki Haley, another former Republican presidential candidate who last year infamously signed an Israeli bomb meant for Gaza with “finish them”, said she believed that simply watching videos on TikTok would make a user antisemitic.

Again, there is a different between hatred for the Jewish people and hate/dislike for the Israeli government and/or military. If you do not believe this, you are part of the problem.

They know it. They deliberately conflate being against the Israeli government and being antisemitic.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 7 points 1 month ago

Under this rhetoric they sweep up even the pious Jewish.

Call me a hopeless optimist, but maybe, just maybe, the next time they start calling something a security risk, we'll get less people parroting this same bullshit.

What do you mean, "Deepseek"?

No one with a brain actually thought the ban was because of China. This makes far more sense.

[–] commander@lemmings.world 7 points 1 month ago

A lot of people on these forums don't have brains, then. Which I agree with.

China is pro-Palestinian, so it's still directly related

[–] BillWigly@kbin.earth 13 points 1 month ago

aha! the thing we knew all along

[–] cavemeat@beehaw.org 10 points 1 month ago

This doesn't surprise me tbh, tiktok has been used for protests and organizing and that always pisses off the government more than liking china.

Bah, could have just as easily been cause someone said something that hurt Trump/Musk's feelings.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

That doesn't track with Trump unbanning it

[–] Sauerkraut@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 month ago

Trump is a fickle king, not a rational strategist. Trump unbanned Tiktok because 1. His son Baron asked him to, 2. To make Biden look bad, 3. Because Tiktok kissed the ring and made some back room deals with Trump

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

He only did that to make himself look good. He was the one who originally popularized banning it in the first place.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Palestine coverage was feared to swing election or make aipac look bad.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 month ago

It helped win him the election.
