Ever wondered what you would have done during the rise of Fascism?

You’re doing it right now.

When I was a kid and learned about the nazis, I always wondered why the good ppl didn't just kill all the nazis. I now know, it's a mix of the system good ppl created themselves to punish crime and their desire to avoid violence.

The irony in the social contract is that while most people perceive it as protecting us, there isn’t much in place protecting us from it.

... You think they jizzed all over those trains?

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Would explain why the current Deutsche Bahn train service is terrible. Can't have efficient trains anymore, that was a problem.

Is there a group that does real tangible stuff to combat fascism that I can take part in? I mean, of course, I'm on the general strike list, boycotting american products and speaking out online, but it doesn't feel like enough.

You gotta build community where you live. Try to find mutual aid organizations around you and connect with those people. I made a post awhile back that was pretty much "Go make some friends". If we want to live in a world without fascism and hate we have to start making a more concerted effort into how our communities function at the base level.

antifa?

but realistically the best thing an individual can do is engage with their local community, get to know people and make people get to know each other so you can protect each other and prevent the spread of hatred.

I'm going to repost this here because I still have it in my clipboard:

The events from 1933 to 1945 should have been combated by 1928 at the latest. Later it was too late. We must not wait until the fight for freedom is called treason. We must not wait until the snowball has turned into an avalanche. The rolling snowball must be crushed. No one can stop the avalanche. It only comes to rest when it has buried everything beneath it.
Erich Kästner, 1958

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago

Yes, we maybe could have stopped the snowball in 2020, but decided to nominate useless AG and assign a lacky judge to try Trump for his crimes.

We really also blew it when we didn’t push through Obama’s Supreme Court justice, and then allowed Trump to push his through even later in his term.

As a life long Democrat voter, it pains me to say it’s the Democrats’ fault. Bernie and AOC need to take over the party and go hide in exile until this collapse can be rebuilt. Bernie probably won’t see a rebuild the way things are going.

This feels a little defeatist. Oh no, it's too far along we should have stopped it years ago.

Never stop until fascism is stopped, no matter how hard it may become.

I see this all over the internet and in real life too. People don't engage, they just watch and comment. "Too bad we couldn't stop this", then they make memes about guillotines, but in reality nothing happens, as long as there is still food and a screen in front of them. Same with climate change. We went from "This isn't a big deal" to "Our species is fucked" in like 5 years. We fingerpoint, blame and don't change a single habit ourselves.

Sit here. Panic. Hope to not die, become imprisoned, etc. Look around at my fellow "citizens" who are enjoying what they've voted in despite the affects it will surely have on themselves. Etc. Pretty much what I would've guessed, honestly.

And you're posting memes, citizen. Well done. We're all fucked, so grab some popcorn and a helmet. Shit is about to get real. 🖤🥲
