I've been taking a break and reading some Macroeconomics, some Anwar Shaikh, and some Geopolitics lectures by Desai and Hudson. I wish I could have contributed to the Super-Imperialism discussions, but I felt like I needed to do some background readings to improve my understanding of concepts like foreign exchange, etc.

I also have some new thoughts about what is Money. There are plenty of debates even amongst Marxists (you can sense big tensions between Shaikh's theory and the MMT-related theories of Desai and Hudson), but I am building my own working understanding. I know we are past money now in our Capital discussion, but I find this interesting to go back to and think about.

I also have some notes written down about Input Output tables and calculating values using them. I know that others here, like quark (spelling? - I'm really sorry!) disagree with the use of Input-Output tables and are of the TSSI school - so not everyone will agree with or find Input Output tables useful. But 1.) I like the 1000 flowers bloom approach, 2.) Dialog of competing frameworks is always good and 3.) I am an optimist who thinks that there can be convergence of sorts, each is a perspective that can improve the other.

But... it may not all be relevant for a Capital discussion. But always interested in wherever our political economy discussion lead!

Let's go! lets-fucking-go

I've been following the Super-Imperialism reading in the meantime, and wow, whenever users like you and the others get into TSSI and other theories, it shows me just how far I have to go, haha. You should be able to keep up with Super-Imperialism IMO!

I feel like I have some esoteric but narrow knowledge on one specific avenue of an economic theory, but I lack knowledge about any actually applicable part of economics. So trust me, there's a lot you know that I either struggle with or just am completely ignorant of. And I still need to learn TSSI lol. Even understanding international exchange is new to me. So reading Super Capitalism had me like scared

One day I hope it can all be bridged together, and that takes a lot learning from others here on Hexbear because I myself am just barely seeing one facet of this jewel. And hopefully as we build our collective knowledge it turns into praxis heart-sickle

Yep, I agree! And again, you give me too much credit, I've only been reading theory for a few years in the grand scheme of things. Super-Imperialism constantly has me like kitty-cri-screm

But that's why we read and learn, comrade, so that we can all be good comrades marx-ok

How far did we get before the Ordeal?

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We had just finished Chapter 10 (Fowkes/Moore translations), so we are ready to start Chapter 11 fresh! We will not be expediting the reading, as it is already pretty fast, unless there's popular support to move quickly. The problem with that is that we lose the clean parity for chapter breakdowns with the last year's version, which allows us to see their takes on it, but it isn't too big an issue.

Alright, good, I should be able to catch up, then.

Looking forward to it!
